About Michael
Michael Hicks is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with 20 years of experience supporting adults through anxiety, depression, unhealthy thinking patterns, life transitions, workplace burnout, and a variety of mental health challenges. He has extensive experience working with people with disabilities and chronic health conditions, and has a particular connection to those navigating the unique demands of aviation and first responder careers.
Michael believes that every person’s experience is different, and that therapy should reflect that. His goal is to create a brave, safe, and authentic space where clients can explore their experiences, make sense of their world, and move toward the positive change they desire.

Approach
Michael takes an eclectic approach to therapy because he knows that every individual is unique. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all model, he tailors his approach to each client and their specific situation.
At the heart of his work is the therapeutic relationship. Michael strives to offer unconditional support, guidance, and an open mind and heart, giving clients the safety they need to do the work of creating change. He believes that therapy is a journey of exploration and commitment, and that clients should feel both supported and empowered throughout the process.
What to Expect
Clients can expect the authentic Michael: someone who will listen unconditionally, without judgment, and with an open mind and heart. Together, you’ll explore what is happening in your life, understand the patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and identify where change is possible.
Michael describes his role this way: “I will share in paddling the boat with you for a while, then at some point along the journey, you will take both oars. Know that I’m still sitting in the boat with you to help navigate the waters.”
A Bit Outside the Office
Outside of work, Michael loves spending time with friends, family, and especially his dog. He enjoys being outdoors as much as possible, traveling when he has the time, listening to vinyl on a rainy day, and relaxing in a good coffee shop.
A Note from Michael
“You’re not alone!” Being nervous when starting therapy, especially if it’s your first time, is very natural. It can feel overwhelming, but Michael encourages clients to be open-minded about the process, be as honest as they feel safe being, and let their therapist know what they need.
