Approach
Velma uses an eclectic, collaborative approach grounded in CBT, solution-focused therapy, strengths-based work, and emotion-focused techniques. She believes therapy is most effective when it is built on trust, collaboration, and a strong therapeutic relationship.
Her work emphasizes meeting clients where they are, identifying strengths, and building practical tools for emotional regulation, communication, and relational growth. She integrates psychoeducation and structured skill-building while maintaining a flexible, client-centered stance.
A key focus of her approach is helping clients feel safe enough to explore challenges while actively participating in goal-setting and the direction of therapy.
What to Expect
In the first session, Velma prioritizes creating a comfortable and supportive environment where clients can begin sharing their story at their own pace. She spends time understanding what brings you to therapy and what you hope to work toward.
Together, you will begin identifying goals and exploring how therapy can best support your needs. Early sessions focus on rapport-building, clarity, and ensuring the therapeutic relationship feels like a good fit.
A Bit Outside the Office
Outside of her clinical work, Velma enjoys embroidery, knitting, and spending time with her family and five dogs. She values creativity, learning, and staying grounded through meaningful daily routines.
A Note from Velma
Velma believes therapy is a safe space to be heard, supported, and challenged in meaningful ways. She emphasizes collaboration, reminding clients that while she brings clinical expertise, each person is the expert of their own life.
She sees therapy as a shared journey focused on growth, empowerment, and creating a life that feels more aligned and fulfilling.
